A rare event happens tonight: a lunar eclipse. 
Unlike the picture here, tonight's eclipse will be "penumbral," which means that only a portion of the moon will be blocked by the Earth's shadow. During a total eclipse of the moon, you will see the moon turn a bright red color.
The most striking lunar eclipse I ever saw was in August 1989. That summer, I worked as one of the administrators at a Girl Scout camp in upstate New York. Far away from city lights, we had nothing blocking the view as we stood near the lake watching the eclipse. It was a beautiful sight, and lasted more than an hour. Moments like that almost made sleeping in a tent the whole summer worthwhile.
