I think it's been four whole days since my local morning news show has mentioned the Swine Flu.  swine-flu-tips-jpg

Are you tired of all the hype yet? All this for an illness that has had mostly mild effect on only a few hundred people.

I will say that one good thing has come out of it.  People are more aware of the need for handwashing.

Not everyone has had my son's kindergarten teacher.  She had those kids so well-trained to cough into their elbows instead of their hands that when my little boy was sick, he would do that in his sleep.

He came home from school the other day telling me that I had to buy a whole bunch of Germ-X.

"Why?  Does your teacher need it for the classroom?"

"No, we need it at home!"

"No, we don't," I told him.  "We have soap."

And towels.  Plenty of clean towels.  And if anyone's germy, the first bit of advice my mom will always give me is "Make sure they have their own towel."  I think that's my mom's Number One Spread-of-Illness Prevention Tip--don't let sick people share a hand towel with healthy people.

(Personally, I figure that once you have washed your hands with soap then your hands are germ-free at least long enough to dry them, but I don't argue with Mom.)
