...or maybe not. 
No sooner did I start going through my closet and dresser, taking out the shorts and short-sleeved tees and putting away the heavy sweaters and turtlenecks, than Mother Nature turned on me and sent in the big chill.
I never time this job right.
Maybe that's why my kids keep their shorts and their heavy sweaters at the ready all the time. In fact, my first-grader still has a hat and mittens available, because he knows that his teacher won't let kids out to play on cold days unless their heads and hands are covered. It's supposed to be time to put spring dresses on little girls--but the effect is ruined when they have to wear a parka to go outside.
Nevertheless, it's time to start going through last year's summer clothes, seeing what fits, mending what's ripped, and making a list of who needs a new swimsuit. And there's only one thing I dread more than buying a swimsuit for myself (not like I ever swim)--that's buying a swimsuit for my teenage daughter. The suits that fit her don't fit my idea of what's appropriate for a girl her age, and there are very few suits for girls who actually intend to swim, dive, and do more than just sunbathe!
So if we get a chance during this very busy "week off" (ha! We're busier this week than we are when the kids are in school!) I'll be making my shopping list for my kids' spring and summer clothing needs. I'm hoping it won't be too long a list, but that's a real pipe dream given the way my Big Kids have grown this year. At least the first-grader has a few bins of hand-me-downs we can open up.
