It's my favorite time of year:  time for Peeps!  peep

Peeps are a springtime candy.  I know that the manufacturer has tried to break out of its seasonal niche and market Halloween, Christmas and Valentine Peeps.  But if they're not chickens and bunnies, they're just not Peeps.

My favorite Peeps are the traditional yellow, but the other ones are cute and just as tasty.  In my house there's a big debate about the proper way to eat Peeps.  I like them a little crispy, so I unwrap the package and leave them sitting out for a week (or three.)  Others won't eat them unless they're super-soft.  And those in my house with a sick sense of humor like to set a Peep on a paper plate and put it in the microwave for Sumo Peeps.

I don't know when they started calling these cute little marshmallow candies "Peeps," since my grandmother used to refer to them as "marshmallow chicks."  Whatever you call them, they're still delicious.
