When I was teaching eighth-graders, I had the misfortune pleasure of chaperoning their three-day class trip to Washington, D.C. It was a whirlwind trip during which we visited the Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial, Mount Vernon, Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and Arlington National Cemetery. 
And we spent a lot of time on the bus. It wasn't a luxury bus either, and we had traveled in several buses from northeastern New Jersey to D.C. with forty kids per bus and no bathroom. There was only one stop at a New Jersey Turnpike rest area, because corralling all the kids at a rest stop and keeping them from ordering two-liter sodas was beyond the capabilities of the teachers who'd gone along.
The one thing that kept the teachers sane was that the kids all were able to listen to music on the bus. They didn't have to entertain themselves with "99 Bottles of Beer on the Wall." Instead, they were all plugged in, each student listening to his own favorite tunes.
Sometimes the kids would come up to the teachers and ask us if we'd like to listen to some of their music. One of them offered to let us listen to a great "new group" he'd just been introduced to. He passed his music player to my seatmate, who listened for a moment and then started laughing.
The great new group was The Beatles. The eighth-graders had no idea that their teachers had been enjoying this music for decades.
