It's the first day of a brand new year, and I know I'm not alone in resolving to get a little more physically fit this year.
Yes, it's time to put aside the "breakfast of champions" I've been eating during this holiday week. That would be Christmas cookies and bacon, with coffee. Delicious, but hardly good for you.
It's time to break out the Special K and grapefruit and ramp up the physical activity. Unlike my children, who run cross-country, play basketball, and climb walls for fun, I lead a fairly sedentary life. My doctor says that carrying laundry baskets up and down two flights of stairs and powerlifting heavy grocery bags does not count as exercise.
I want to find a new doctor. If that doesn't count as strength training, I don't know what does.
Being afraid of heights, I won't be climbing any walls like my teenage son does (that's him in the picture, and he's really high up! I'm glad I wasn't there watching.) And I'm too short for basketball--my seventh-grade daughter is already taller than I am. As to my six-year-old, he is never still for a second. I'm sure he burns off every last calorie he consumes just jumping around the house. It's like he has a built-in pogo stick.
Sometimes I wish I were a kid again, if only to have that kind of metabolism.

I've just joined my local indoor climbing facility. It was a little expensive at first but I have to say that I'm happy now that I have my routine down. I recommend it to nearly anyone really that is looking for an alternative.
"carrying laundry baskets up and down two flights of stairs and powerlifting heavy grocery" how does that not count lol.
Doing that daily or a few times weekly can wear you out.
I've been on nutrisystem for 3 weeks. The last time I weighed myself I lost 8lbs. but its like I keep see-sawing and I have no idea why.
