Books are great for nosy people like me. 
The other day I wandered around in a big bookstore, coffee in hand, browsing through the nonfiction section and the tables featuring special topics. I could easily have spent the entire afternoon there. If I had more time, I would have taken a teetering pile of books to one of the soft chairs and explored all the fascinating topics in the books I opened: American architecture, copycat restaurant recipes, poverty, Asperger's disease, the ten most-damaging books ever written, home-office organization and the actress who played Marcia Brady on TV.
Like I said, I'm nosy. My interests are all over the place. I'm like that nosy neighbor on TV sitcoms who can't decide which window to look out first--because interesting stuff is happening all around! I have a pretty large collection of nonfiction books at home, but I've only finished reading a few of them. As with the nonfiction I borrow from the library, I read the few chapters I'm really interested in, learn a little something, then move on.
Maybe that's why I'm good at Trivial Pursuit.
There are at least twenty books here in my house that I'd love to read this year--or at least start, and discover what can be learned in their pages. Add a generous sprinkling of good fiction and I'm all set.
