It's that time of year again...one of my favorite times of year. In only three weeks we'll all be breaking out a fresh new calendar. 
There's nothing that says "new beginning" to me like a new calendar. It's like a New Year's Resolution. The possibilities, in all those blank calendar pages, that aren't scribbled over with errand lists and school-bus-pickup times and reminders to make dentist appointments. And while I like the planner I have now, there are things about it that just don't work for me. So I'll be investigating some new planners as we approach the New Year. I'm sure that with the right planner, I could be super-organized.
OK, I'm not really naive enough to believe that a calendar could do all that for me. But it's nice to dream. The bubble generally bursts the second I write that first appointment into the calendar. Am I the only one who hoards a new calendar until the last possible second before writing anything in there?
I also need to get a nice big calendar for the whole family to use. Generally this hangs on the refrigerator door. With 3 kids in school, one Boy Scout, one Cub Scout, and the older two involved in various sports, it tends to fill up fast. So I must make sure that the one I get has plenty of room to write down all those important reminders.
And what's a new calendar without a new pen? I used to work in a small stationery store, and one of the perks of the job was getting to try all the pen samples that vendors used to bring by. I could use a different pen every workday if I wanted! Needless to say, I took full advantage of that.
