Way back when my husband and I were dating, he surprised me with a gift of jewelry: a pair of beautiful diamond and ruby earrings. They are lovely and I treasure them--even more than my engagement ring, because the earrings were truly a gift from the heart. 
However, I'm not a big jewelry wearer. I do wear those earrings on special occasions. But for every day, I've got my watch and my wedding ring--and that's it.
If the commercials, print ads, and billboards are to be believed, I must be the only woman on earth who is not eagerly anticipating a gift of jewelry. Fortunately, I did dodge one bullet this week: the kids' school had that Holiday Shop where the children are forced encouraged to spend money on dollar-store items for their parents and other loved ones. My first-grader was more than happy to buy a few gifts for his best friends in the neighborhood, and I was glad to avoid receiving a necklace that would likely turn my skin green. If he wants to give me a Christmas present, I'll be thrilled with a hand-drawn picture, especially if it says "I love you, Mommy" on the bottom.

I get pretty tired of getting useless gifts, so I pretty much have said to stop giving them to me, unless they are gift cards,or food of some type. I love the gifts that make me think: hey, they actually did this for me with care. Those are the gifts that i remember
There is nothing worse than recieving a jewellery gift that stains your skin green, yet you have ot waei rt because its frmo a loved one
