It’s my favorite season. Right now the leaves on the trees around here are turning all sorts of beautiful colors. The nights are a little chilly—cool enough for a jacket, but not so cold that you can’t sleep with the windows open. I’m happy to take out the long-sleeved shirts again, even if it’s almost too warm to wear them by midafternoon. And let’s not forget about one of my favorite sports. Bring on the college football! I’m not ashamed to admit that I regularly embarrass my children by screaming at the television while my favorite team takes the field.
On a recent weekend we took a drive to visit my parents, who live 125 miles north of us. What a difference that (and a little altitude) made in the fall colors that we saw on the trip! There were even some areas that were already “past peak” but I’d say that we enjoyed an excellent show of color. Definitely photo-album-worthy!
I don’t mind raking, but that’s probably because we don’t have too many trees. Of course, the best part about raking is jumping into the big pile of leaves that you’ve made, even if it does scatter them all over the place again!
Fall is my favorite season, but it ushers in my least favorite season: winter. I’m not a person who tolerates the cold well. When the temperature dips below 50, you’ll probably see me out and about wearing gloves! I spent one winter living in the Midwest and it was just way too cold for me there. I wore a full-length down coat from November through March. Then I moved back to the East Coast and gave away the coat, because it just never gets cold enough here for me to need something like that.
That reminds me—I should go find my gloves before the next chilly morning!
