It was 1991, the last time the NY Giants won a Super Bowl. I was a sophomore in college in upstate New York. My dad's always been a big Giants fan, so I've rooted for them mainly for him (and for the NY pride thing I guess). Though I'm a Pittsburgh Steelers fan through and through. If it's a Steelers/Giants game or Super Bowl, no question I'm with the Steelers. But in '91, it was the Giants vs. Bills and it was a real nail biter. I remember watching it in my dorm in one of the suites where some guys had a huge TV and we were packed in like sardines. It was an exciting game and when it was over, the first thing I did was call my dad to congratulate him on the Giants win (which is odd, 'cause my dad didn't play for the Giants, so why should I congratulate him?). He was pretty damn happy, and it was nice sharing that moment with him.
Well, last night I got to do it again. And the Giants win over the arrogant Patriots (I actually have grown to like the evil Cowboys more than the Patriots this year...) was even more of a nail biter. It seriously was one of the best football games I have ever seen. Not just a David vs. Goliath thing, though with the Giants being 12-point underdogs, it definitely had that feel. But it really was a fast-moving, high intensity, low-penalty game. And when the outcome of the game comes down to a few unbelievably amazing plays within the final 2 minutes of the game, that's just nuts. I watched the game at a local bar/restaurant, so of course it was pretty packed with 95% NY fans screaming their heads off. The energy was definitely contagious. I don't think I've ever had more fun or better conversations on my cell phone (kinda like watching the game with my friends who are scattered across the country) at times during that game. And when it was over, I went outside where it was a little quieter, and called my dad. He was once again on cloud nine, and it was really great to hear him happy and share in that moment again. Hopefully we can do it one more time in another 17 years...

Andrew, you are one entertaining writer. All of the excitement I felt during the great (low scoring) Giants games including this amazing Super Bowl, and the jaw dropping, eye popping, "make things happen" performances of Terry Bradshaw and the Steelers came back for a little while reading your post. Yours is not the type of site I visit. So please take it as a compliment that I always read it, even if I do sometimes forget to drop a card. I sometimes forget my heart medicine, too.
@Rob - Thank you. Honestly, thank you. I didn't read your comment until just now and it was exactly what I needed for a bit of a pick-me-up and inspiration. And seeing as how I'm a big Steelers fan, I appreciate the Terry nod. And I certainly do take your comments as a compliment. Don't worry about the card dropping (honestly, I'd rather have the comments!), but DO remember your heart medicine!
