So there's a new Indiana Jones movie in the works. Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull is set for a May 22 release. Yeah Indy's looking a little old these days, but once you hear that familiar theme music playing and the crack of his whip, tell me you're not gonna rush out and buy a ticket?
I remember watching Raiders of the Lost Ark at home on video with my parents and being 500% blown away. From the crazy giant rolling boulder opening to the evil bald guy getting decapitated by a plane's propellor (yuck!) to the why-did-it-have-to-be-snakes moment, I was mesmerized for the entire film. It's still one of my all-time favorites. The sequels, not so much. I enjoyed them, but they didn't have the total charm of the original. And while I'm excited about the new film this spring, I'm definitely quite skeptical. Especially since it's been over a decade in the making and a certain wishy washy director named George Lucas (who is 3 for 6 in terms of quality Star Wars films) is involved. It'll either recapture the magic of the original, or be a more Hollywoodized version, making us remember how great the original one was.
But what I am psyched about is all the related merchandising. Starting with... Legos! Yes, Legos!!! There are a handful of sets available in the Indiana Jones Collection, but the Temple Escape set is easily the one I want. It's got the rolling boulder for crying out loud!!! Yeah, $60 is a bit of a hefty price, but like I said, it's got the rolling boulder!!!
And come on, how adorable is that little Lego Indy figure? Heck, mix these up with your Lego Star Wars sets (you do have a few of those don't you?) and you can have a Harrison Ford face-off with Indy and Han Solo! Hmm... I wonder if they'll ever make a Fugitive or Hunt For Red October set...

Man, I predict a great year for movies in 08! The latest Indiana Jones is only one of about a dozen movies I'm dying to see this year. Bad news for you though. Cloverfield is shot entirely from the perspective of a hand held camera. Not for the motion sick prone. Sorry buddy
Living close to Disney's MGM Studios we've gotten to see the Indian show quiet a few times. It even has the BIG BOULDER in it too!! We are Indiana fans too and looking forward to the movie coming out! How cool about the Lego's.. too cute!
I'm not so sure I'm ready for Social Security Indy, I'm thinking some things should just be left alone.
I was watching the last of the Star Wars Films (not Star Wars light which would be the three prequels), Return of the Jedi, and noticed that at the end of the film when the spirits of Yoda, Obi Wan and Anakin show up, they've made Anakin the young guy from the prequel. Oy!
Anyway, if you like legos you should go to this site: http://www.thebricktestament.com, it's good for hours of entertainment!
@CG - Yeah there's a lotta really good potential this year. Iron Man! Cloverfield (despite it's dizzying amateur look). Even The Dark Knight could be good.
@Mikki - I really have to visit MGM one of these days. Must be nice living so close to an awesome theme park like that. All we've got is crazy rollercoaster places like Six Flags. Bleh.
@menopauseprincess - I agree with ya, but I'm willing to give it the benefit of the doubt. Heck, I saw Rocky Balboa (with a 600-year-old looking Stallone) and it wasn't awful. And yeah, they redid that ending int he Special Edition and I agree 100% on the oy. Thanks for the entertaining Lego link, too. I've actually seen that before and totally love it!
i wonder how closely this is going to follow the "leaked" script that has been circulating on the internet underground for the last ten years.... ie- it was ten years ago that the rumors of this film began, and now here it is a reality.... i cant wait... cliche or not, i loved these films.
