Today's flashback to everyone's favorite decade the '80s (and yes, by everyone, I mean me) is in honor of a milestone I hit this week. No, it wasn't my 100th blog post (actually I'm probably coming up on 250 I think) or birthday or anniversary or anything. On Monday morning, actually, it happened. Probably sometime around 9:30 a.m. I'd say. We were driving on the highway in my ol' 1999 Honda Civic when I looked down and saw it.
Yep, for the first time in my life, I broke the 100,000 miles mark on my odometer. Granted, I would've blown past that a few years ago if I wasn't working from home (where I barely take the car out at all). But with all the cars I've had before and my parents' cars growing up, we never let them break the 100k mark. I think we usually traded them in for a new car around the 80,000 mark or so. I don't think my dad's ever had a car for more than 6 or 7 years actually. So this was definitely a first for me. I should probably have a cake or something, right?
Also, tying into the rock scene, my wife and kids came back from the mall yesterday with my belated Chanukah present. Well, belated because it's been sold out for eons. My 4 year old told me to "Close your eyes, daddy!" So I did. Then when I opened them I saw the most glorious gift ever. Guitar Hero 3 for the XBox360. It took every ounce of strength yesterday to not rip it open and start playing right then and there. Actually, I hadn't even opened the Xbox 360 itself yet, 'cause I'm waiting till after the holiday insanity was over. But this weekend I am most definitely playing!
Anyways, how can I tie mileage and a video game into this week's Flashback? Could it be Dire Straits' "Money for Nothing" with that funky video game style animation? Nope. Though that is a good one. Instead, think fast cars and even faster guitars. That's all ya need.

While I love your site, as a concerned consumer I wanted to inform you about a company you promote and how it has violated its guarantees. Specifically Figi's has violated its "100% Satisfaction Guarantee" and its delivery guarantee. When asked for help in the matter, its customer service representatives were extremely rude (including hanging up on a customer) and the situation was unresolved. Again, your site is great, but I felt the need to share with you information about one of the companies you are supporting.
Thank you for listening.
Wow. You really don't drive your car much. A 1999 just turning 100,000 miles? That's great though. I'm at about 45,000 miles on my Ford Taurus SE, and it's a 2005!
@M. Edelson - Thanks for sharing your thougths on Figi's. I'm sorry you've had trouble with them, though. Have you tried calling customer service again? If not, I recommend you contact a number of online watchdog services such as the Better Business Bureau or the Consumer Action Website. Thanks for the kind words about our site though!
@Tish - Yeah like I said, I work from home, so most days I don't even take the car out at all. And on the weekend we use the minivan. Plus even when I didn't work from home, my job was only 10 minutes away. And wow, 45k on just 2 years? That seems a little crazy to me.
Congrats on the 100K mark man! My wifes car just dies on us. The sucker had 168K! I love Guitar Hero 3. Rock Band is really awesome, too. Only thing is you need at least 2 friends to play in a band.
I know I love my 360. My bro-in-law and I being uber computer geeks have hacked ours. I hope you enjoy yours as much as I do mine. Merry Christmas!
Hi, Andrew! Even though you don't celebrate Christmas, I still wanted to stop by to wish you a very merry one! I hope you're having a great time with the family! Happy Hanukkah!
@Complete Geek - Thanks muchly! Sorry to hear your wife's car just kicked it, but 168k? That's definitely a good long life I"d say.
And you've got a 360, huh? We may just have to hook up one of these days and have a guitar off! I'm dying to try Rock Band actually. Friend of mine has it, I just gotta find time to head over.
@Tish - Aww, isn't that sweet. Thanks for the merry wishes. And the belated Hanukkah ones too.
