Tish from The Kat House has started an interesting meme. While she still hasn't named the thing, I'm calling it the Getting to Know Meme:
Bloggers tend to be very honest, spilling their deepest thoughts into the blogosphere without a moment's hesitation. It is that openness that allows us to feel that we really know the people behind the blogs. But what if we could get to know them even better? You've read the bloggers' words. Now read what the people closest to them have to say.
Please take a moment to tell my readers about the real me - the Andrew many of them know only from my own words. Do you have a memory to share? A story to tell? Thoughts to pass on? If so, please leave a comment.
I challenge all of my readers to tackle this assignment. I would love to get to know you better. If you do choose to participate, please let me know, as I would love to leave my thoughts about you on your post!
Now, how about telling my readers all about me?
Tish actually has a lot of friends she's met that comment on her blog, which makes this a bit easier for her. I'm curious to see who leaves a comment on here for me, though, since not too many of my local friends read my blog (or at least they do but never comment). But I'm hoping this'll nudge a few former co-workers, roommates or college buddies to jump in and tell some wonderfully embarrassing tales about me. That's of course, not to say that I haven't made a ton of new online friends, who I encourage to post as well. Even if it's just reminiscing about your favorite posts or comments from me over time.

This should be interesting. I know a bit about you business-wise and you are a great blogging friend. It will be fun to see if you are the same offline as you are online.
I discovered your blog thanks to the Wii contest (when will you announce the winner by the way), and I automatically thought you were a 'she'. Even though I got a confirmation email about my contest entry from you, with the name 'Andrew', I thought it was just someone helping the 'she' around with this website.
Now why I thought you were a 'she'...maybe because I have a wrong impression about women being way more frugal than men, hence the interest in coupons and savings.
When you posted your Halloween picture, I first thought you were the lady on the picture.
Am I off-topic?
Wow. This is off to an awesome start. Hahhhhahahaha. Yes, Jo, I am fairly similar in real life to on here. And Mary, sorry to disappoint, but I am a he, not a she.
Andrew discovered my blog and left a comment several months ago. I am very thankful he did, because we have become great friends since that time. Though we've never met in person, I consider him to be one of the closest friends I've ever had.
We were born only 27 days apart, so I can relate to most of what he talks about on his blog - especially the crazy 1980s! We have lots in common and have experienced many of the same things in life. His sense of humor and his writing style had me hooked from the first day I visited his blog.
Andrew is a very kind, caring, and fun guy. Though a responsible family man, he is also a big kid at heart. He loves comic books and action figures.
In many ways, Andrew is like the big brother I never had. He watches out for me and gives great advice. He laughs and teases me when I tell him crazy, embarrassing stories from my life. But he never judges. I feel that I can tell him anything.
Andrew is a very special guy, and his wife is one lucky woman. Great guys like him are a rarity.
Andrew is a great friend because he has no compelling reason to be my friend but he is anyway. He escaped his job as my boss many months ago, and we talk way more now than we ever did when he sat in the room next to mine eight hours a day.
Andrew offers great advice and he never complains about my complaining. And his kids are cute.
@Tish - Thank you for calling them "action figures" and not "dolls." That means a lot to me. Oh, and the other stuff was kinda nice too.
@Justin - Thanks, Justin! And funny, but true. We worked a mere 10 feet from each other for almost 2 years but it took me quitting for us actually to start talking a lot more. And it's true, I have no reason to be your friend. Hmm... Now that you mention it... Kidding. I'm kidding of course. Justin's one of the nicest guys I've ever met (despite having a beard), one of the funniest writers I've ever worked with, and he too has a pretty darn cute kid. But enough about him, let's get back to me...
I know something about you... you are SUCH a smartass!! You didn't think that "Andrew is cooler than me" comment was going to just slide did you? Oh nooooo buddy!
Actually, it's like finding my twin we're so much alike. LOL. WOW, a sibling I would actually LIKE!! I don't think I'd know what to do then. We'd actually hang out and talk to each other and...... okay that just gave me the willies. I'll stick with my siblings leaving me the hell alone and we'll just stay friends k?
*snort*
Oh, yes, Andrew has a great sense of humor! Remember that time I entered your Wii contest and you laughed because I said that guy pulled the cancer card and I almost wished he'd win? That was fun.
Hey there Andrew...I can't say anything about you...but you do have good advice. Thanks for stopping by my blog!
I know Andrew in real life. My earliest memory of him is when we were both working at iWon.com. We sat near each other but he always seemed to busy to talk to me. I remember him commenting on my Neverwinter Nights wallpaper or something, but the conversation didn't go far beyond that. Eventually we worked on some projects together like the Games channel which was a lot of fun, despite the frustrations of the job. I remember playing Magic: The Gathering on a number of late nights and losing every time to him. To be fair, he used to work for a magazine who covered Magic and other games.
Then he quit and left me to die alone.
No, then I quit as well and took several long months off. During this time he and I worked on a site I had sitting around for a while: http://www.girlskickbutt.com. We re-launched and started making a small amount of money from it. It's been up for about 2 years now. These days, about every 2 weeks Andrew will go into a tirade about how we have to re-design, should start a blog, add image rating and forums.... but then we never do anything about it.
We used to play NFL Fever on Xbox Live every once in a while. He would get upset because I would often kick his ass and don't know the first thing about football.
Now I'm trying to talk him into getting a 360 so we can play Guitar Hero 3 and other such games online.
He listens to me bitch and moan on a weekly basis and I get to hear about what's broken in his house this week and when his kids went to sleep the night before and when they woke up and how tired he is.
Also, he likes lots of cheesy 80's metal bands. I guess everybody has their one major flaw.
Also, that's a really bad picture of him.
Brian Kelly, thanks for spilling your guts on Andrew, lol.
Dayum dude, warn a person next time! LMAO I thought it was going to be some cool site and then it's like HELL-O! Ugh...I need to go bleach my eyeballs now.
I've known Andrew for quite some time. I used to work with him, hang out with him and live with him so I know him pretty well. I think there's a few things everyone should know about Andrew. He's your buddy. He's your pal. And you will never catch him sitting in the back of the room eating paste.
I have quite a few stories about Andrew but the one that sticks out most in my mind in the one where he lost our house the MarioKart 64 Championship. I lived with Andrew in that house where his room had the pink carpet and the Tot Finder in the window (which is also one of my favorite stories). Our house was challenged by another house over who had the best MarioKart 64 players. It was a challenge we were well prepared for. The other team was tough, but we were tougher. It was a grueling match. Head to head the entire way. It came down to one last race and Andrew and I were teamed up to bring the championship home. The race was neck and neck the whole way but as we drove toward the finish line I was in the lead followed closely by Andrew. It was awesome. There was no way we could lose. We drove through the weapon boxes and waited to see what weapons we would get. I got a lightning bolt (which shrinks the other players) but so did the other team. We used them at the same time so everyone was shrunk. But I was still in the lead. All I had to do was keep driving and victory was ours!
But then, for a reason I still don't understand to this day, Andrew decided to ruin everything by PURPOSEFULLY running into me, which squished us both. All I could do was watch as the other team blazed by us and took the championship home. They cheered and laughed and called us "girls" and "sissy mary's" and "losers." It was a terrible day and one that we were constantly teased about for years at work. I never understood why Andrew threw the race but that's exactly what happened.
But anyhow, regardless of the fact that he lost us the MarioKart 64 Championship that day, Andrew and I have remained friends. I don't get to see him much being that I'm out on the west coast but whenever I'm back east I always try to make some time to get together with my old roomie just to catch up and talk about the good old days.
I am still laughing out loud at Jo's comment about bleaching her eyeballs. *LOL*
@Jo - Yeah I can see that. You can be my younger sister that I torture regularly, and you can just look up to me and see how unbelievably cool I am.
@QTPies - Hah! Well said. And of course I remember that one.
@Taylor Blue - Well I appreciate your honesty and your visit! Not sure what advice I actually give on here, but glad it's helping you out. Heh.
@Brian - I really can't argue or disagree with one single point that Brian brings up. He pretty much nailed it on the head. And my favorite part was when I quit iWon and left you to die alone. That was fun.
@Mike - Mike was my first real roomie out of college. I practically had to beg him to move out of his parents house and in with me (cause I couldn't afford a place on my own). That said, this is one pretty lame story you told, Mike. Not only is it 98% inaccurate (For the record, Mike is the one who blew the big Mario Kart race for us, not me...), but there are soooo many better tales you can tell. And yes, that is a challenge.
@Tish & Jo - Why do I get the feeling the two of you are going to team up on me any minute... Hoo boy... (And I take it from your reaction, Jo, that GKB.com is not a cool site. Heh.)
The one thing I know about Andrew is that he is so funny! He can leave a short comment that will have me laughing for five minutes. And he's also a rat like me (and Tish)! (1972)
Andrew's great at link love that makes your day.
Looking forward to getting to know more.
@Christy - Really? I made you laugh? For five minutes? No way. What did I say?!?!? And yes, rats rule!
@BBM - Aww, thanks, BBM. Same here.
