Shop for a Cure this Month

Pink Ribbon October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Sure you might think it’s a little strange that a guy is posting about this on his blog. And yes, men can get breast cancer, though it’s far less common then in woman. No I don’t have it. And no I don’t know any guys who have had it.

I do, however, understand the importance of finding a cure, as it is one of the leading causes of death in women, and it’s something that can certainly be treated or prevented if caught early enough. Don’t worry, I’m not going to shock or bore you with any stats (a quick google search will help you out there). Instead I’ll briefly tell you about my mother, who had two bouts of breast cancer when I was younger.

I must’ve been in elementary school the first time, and junior high school the second time. I don’t remember too much about the whole thing other than my mom finding a lump in her breast that they biopsied and removed the lump. She had lots and lots of follow-up tests and same thing happened years later and that was it. No radiation. No mastectomy. Though they did cut her up a bit and she goes quite regularly for a mammogram and waits in the office for the results (because they know how crazy nervous she gets every time she goes for one). She hasn’t had any re-occurence since thankfully. So all in all, I think we’ve been really lucky. But even still, any chance I get to help out with Breast Cancer Awareness, and I’ll take it.

So I’m using this post not to offer coupons, but instead to point out any products, sites or other blogs that are donating towards Breast Cancer Awareness causes. Thanks for the mention - this really is such an important cause as it is something all women need to think about, along with all men who love women. The Think Pink campaign raises not only money but awareness, and I am so excited that I decided to be part of this too.

I don’t know why, but breast cancer seems to be something that I really care about. I say that because like your post, I don’t have breast cancer and don’t know anyone who has. But I try to do my part with donating money and buying pink tennis balls.

And not too long ago on the Today Show I heard some scientist say they’re very optimistic that we’ll see a cure within our lifetime. Isn’t that crazy? (Crazy as in good that is of course).

Hmmmmm interesting. breast cancer is a topic which needs awareness. True it has some awareness but I believe it needs more awareness.This can then prevent the cancer at an early stage. Anyway good job Andrew. Keep it up.

Yes it’s for a important cause, they have made the public very aware of this very unpleasant disease and they have promoted this cause well. If compared to the male form prostate cancer I believe awareness about breast cancer is light years ahead when it comes to raising funds, I might be wrong!
