I've always loved languages. Don't know why, I just find it fascinating. I took Spanish in high school all the way through senior year (Aced my Spanish AP exams too! Yay me!) and even took 1 or 2 classes in college about Spanish literature, etc. I have no Spanish in my blood, I just really enjoy the language. One day I will learn Japanese, though. that's my goal.
Post college, I did the typical 5-week backpacking with my friend Dave. And at each foreign city/country we hit (France, Germany, Italy, Austria, Prague...), I did my best to soak up whatever language I could. Or at the very least figure out how to ask where the bathroom is or where we could find the train station. The funniest part was somewhere in Italy (Florence I believe). We were really trying frantically to find the train station. We stumbled up on this middle aged man who stopped to chat with us. Using the most broken Italian I could muster up, I somehow fumbled out the words to ask where the train station is. He apparently understood enough because in rapid-fire Italian, he shot back directions so fast we had no clue what he was saying. "Uh, could you say that slower" we somehow got out in a mix of English/Italian. At which point the man smiled gently, looked at us and said in plainEnglish, "Sure. You just want to go two blocks straight ahead, turn left and it's a few blocks down." Our jaws dropped as we laughed, thanked him and bolted to catch our train. Europeans just rule!

Is it just me who's wondering why Chef Boyardee pics are in this post? hehehe...
Hah! Thanks for noticing, Tish! I try really hard with each post to tie in some sort of photo. And rather than going the boring route of just posting a product based on the coupon at the end, I try to show something related to the anecdote. In this case, I'm talking about languages, in particular Italian! What's more Italian to Americans than Chef Boyardee? Heh. Okay, so this one was a bit of a stretch, but it got you thinking, didn't it?
I am so glad you are talking about the Chef Boyardee because I was initially worried that my comment would be out of place -- but where can I get this Family Size lasagna kit? They don't have this in Canada... and I love Chef Boyardee. Whenever I go to grocery stores in the States I am always mystified by the selection of Chef Boyardee products. You are so lucky!
Haha! Yes, it is a bit of a stretch! I wondered if you were going for the whole Italian food thing, but I thought...nahh! I thought maybe you just selected the wrong photo to upload and didn't realize it! hehe.
Loved the story, btw!
Danielle: Have you read most of my posts on here? Nothing you could say in a comment would be out of place. Heh. I'm all over the place on here... I didn't realize you're a Canucklehead! And to be honest, I don't know where to get that Family Size lasagna kit. I just grabbed it off the ChefBoyardee.com website cause it looked real yummy. I grew up on the Chef's mini meat raviolis and my favorite rollercoasters pasta and mini meatballs... mmmm....
The grocery coupon program found at http://mortgagecreditsavingsandtips.com will list all the stores that have items available for free also 2 for 1, what coupon and where to get the coupon.
