Anti-Quackery Resources
When people talk about “quackery,” they are referring to either fraudulent or unproven medical practices. It comes from the word quack-salver, a Dutch word meaning “boaster who applies a salve.” In most cases, it’s used in reference to some kind of medical trickery or fraud. It’s also associated with doctors who are pushing unproven methods of treatment, medical companies who hide or play down side-effects of medicines, and anyone who claims to have a “miracle cure” with no solid medical evidence to back it up. These people take advantage of innocent and desperate consumers.
